RELAUNCHED 12 SEPTEMBER 2026
Our online technology home remains shop.a2ztech.co.za

On 12 September 2026, we officially relaunched A2Z TechDirect, our online technology store at shop.a2ztech.co.za.

For us, this is more than the reopening of an e-commerce store. It represents the redesign and redevelopment of a digital technology channel that we first introduced in 2020, now rebuilt around how people, organisations and communities actually buy, use and access technology today.

A great deal has changed since 2020. Customer behaviour has changed. The workplace has changed. Education has changed. The economics of reaching customers have changed. And technology itself has become far more embedded in everyday life.

That is why we felt it was time to rethink A2Z TechDirect rather than simply bring the old store back.

Why We Rebuilt A2Z TechDirect

When we look at the forces shaping technology purchasing, three drivers stand out strongly: technological, social and economic change.

The Technological Driver: Mobile Has Changed the Buying Journey

The smartphone has become one of the most important points of entry into commerce.

Customers increasingly discover products, compare specifications, check pricing, communicate with businesses and complete purchases from their mobile devices. An online technology store can no longer be designed primarily for a desktop user and then reduced to fit a smaller screen.

We therefore approached the new TechDirect as a mobile-first commerce and technology procurement platform, with mobile customer journeys forming a central part of the design philosophy.

The goal is straightforward: whether someone is shopping from a desk, working remotely from a laptop or browsing from a phone, buying technology should feel simple.

The Social Driver: Work, Education and Everyday Life Have Changed

The way people use technology has fundamentally shifted.

Remote and hybrid work are no longer exceptional working models. People require notebooks, monitors, headsets, docking stations, networking equipment, power solutions and accessories in places that were traditionally outside the corporate office.

At the same time, home schooling, digital education and technology-enabled classrooms have increased the importance of reliable access to computing devices, connectivity, peripherals and supporting technologies.

Consumers have also become accustomed to on-demand convenience. We expect to search, compare, save, return and transact when it suits us.

That thinking has influenced how we have approached TechDirect.

Customers can browse technology, add products to their cart, save products to favourites and return later to continue their shopping journey. The platform has also been designed to support normal online purchasing alongside business procurement, bulk purchasing and customers who need help selecting an appropriate technology solution.

Our broader TechDirect architecture recognises different purchasing needs - from the direct buyer who knows exactly what they want, to a business buyer requiring multiple units, to customers who need advice before making a decision.

The Economic Driver: Making Technology Distribution More Efficient

There is another important reason for TechDirect: economics.

Traditional technology distribution carries significant costs.

There is the cost of distribution.

There is the cost of market access.

There is the cost of procurement.

There are also costs associated with repeatedly checking stock, sourcing products manually, comparing supplier pricing, responding to enquiries and moving information between suppliers, sales teams and customers.

Digital commerce gives us an opportunity to rethink some of those costs.

Our long-term vision for TechDirect is therefore not simply to operate another online computer catalogue. We are building a digital commerce and procurement capability that progressively connects product information, inventory, supplier data, pricing, fulfilment and customer communication.

As those capabilities mature, they should allow us to make procurement more efficient while creating a stronger digital route between technology suppliers, A2Z Communications and our customers.

What We Want A2Z TechDirect to Stand For

There are several principles we want customers to associate with the new store.

Cutting-edge technology. We want TechDirect to continually introduce relevant technology across computing, mobility, networking, collaboration, audiovisual, printing, storage, power and the wider technology ecosystem.

Affordable and competitive pricing. Technology buyers have more information and more choice than ever before. Our pricing model is designed around remaining commercially sustainable while keeping our customer proposition competitive.

Inclusive and transparent delivery. The customer should understand the price of the product, the applicable delivery proposition and what happens next. Our platform design places particular emphasis on customer-facing VAT-inclusive pricing, clear delivery information and avoiding hidden mandatory charges.

And increasingly, we want TechDirect to stand for visibility.

Inventory Transparency Is an Important Part of Our Proposition

One of the frustrations of buying technology online is discovering that something advertised as available cannot actually be supplied.

We want to improve that experience.

A major part of the TechDirect model is the way we approach inventory transparency and stock confidence.

Rather than treating every product as simply "in stock" or "out of stock", the platform is being designed around meaningful availability states such as In Stock, Limited Stock, Available, Backorder, Stock Confirmation Required and Out of Stock.

Where supplier inventory can be verified reliably, customers should be able to proceed normally. Where availability cannot be confirmed with enough confidence, the safer customer experience is to request stock confirmation rather than take payment based on unreliable information.

For me, this is an important part of building trust in digital commerce.

Simple Pricing. Simple Shopping.

Technology procurement can become unnecessarily complicated very quickly.

We want the customer-facing experience to remain simple even where the supply chain behind it is complex.

Our philosophy is therefore:

Find the technology. See the price. Understand availability. Add it to your cart. Save it if you are not ready. Come back when you are ready to complete the purchase.

For larger business requirements, customers can move from conventional ecommerce into business pricing, bulk purchasing and solution-based procurement rather than trying to force a complex organisational purchase through a normal consumer checkout.

The original TechDirect concept was an online store.

The new TechDirect is being built to become something broader.

Technology for Different Ways of Working and Learning

A2Z TechDirect is not designed for only one kind of technology customer.

We are building the platform for:

• SMEs - looking for reliable and competitively priced technology without creating a large internal procurement function.

• Big businesses - requiring devices, accessories, infrastructure and larger-volume procurement.

• Remote and hybrid workers - who need dependable technology wherever work happens.

• Home schoolers and families - who increasingly depend on technology for learning, productivity and access to digital services.

• Schools and education organisations - procuring technology for learners, educators, administration and connected learning environments.

• Individual customers - simply looking for the right technology at the right price.

Our catalogue spans a wide range of technology categories, including business laptops, desktops, workstations, monitors, docking stations, keyboards and mice, headsets, printers and scanners, storage, networking and Wi-Fi, UPS and power, collaboration technology, audiovisual equipment, accessories and selected software and service bundles.

From Online Store to Digital Technology Procurement Platform

This relaunch is a beginning, not an endpoint.

Our ambition is for A2Z TechDirect to progressively evolve from an e-commerce storefront into A2Z Communications' intelligent digital technology procurement platform.

That means continually improving supplier connectivity, inventory visibility, product information, customer experience, business procurement, pricing intelligence, fulfilment and digital service integration.

But underneath all of that technology, the objective remains simple:

Make it easier for people and organisations to access the technology they need.

The way we work has changed.

The way we learn has changed.

The way we shop has changed.

Technology distribution must change with it.

On 12 September 2026, we took another step in that direction.

A2Z TechDirect is live again.

Business technology. Sourced smarter.
