Gugu Peteni, a visionary in South African fashion, embarked on her creative journey by studying fashion and textile design at Nelson Mandela University, graduating with honors in 2017. After honing her skills as the in-house designer and retail manager at Mohair SA, Gugu ventured into entrepreneurship, founding the dynamic brand GUGUBYGUGU.
Gugu's talent quickly garnered recognition, earning her a spot among South Africa's top emerging creatives at Design Indaba's prestigious showcase in 2018. Her standout collection, "Golden State of Mind," captivated audiences, setting the stage for her ascent in the fashion industry. Subsequently, Gugu made waves as the youngest contestant on the inaugural season of Project Runway South Africa, solidifying her position as a rising star.
In 2020, Gugu's commitment to sustainability and innovation led her to delve into the operations of clothing manufacturing, laying the groundwork for her own manufacturing house. This pivotal year culminated in her selection to represent South Africa at Lagos Fashion Week, where her boundary-pushing designs captivated the global fashion community.
With a keen eye for craftsmanship and a dedication to empowering artisans, GUGUBYGUGU emerged as a beacon of creativity and inclusivity. Rooted in the vibrant spirit of the 90s, GUGUBYGUGU infuses luxury streetwear with artisanal flair, celebrating the richness of African culture and heritage.
